Review: Tatcha Ritual Discovery Kit

Tatcha 1After writing a post on facial toners and listing Tatcha as one of my favorite one, a representative from Tatcha actually reached out to me to share more of their collection with me. I was super excited since this was the first time a brand reached out to me to try out their product. I’ve been interested in their other products so I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to try it out! Don’t worry though, I will be honest with my opinion and won’t let this free product sway me.

She first asked me to fill out their online skin care questionnaire to find out what kind of skin type I have. You can also fill it out here. I like how they have a questionnaire for people to figure out which products to buy and it’s not a buy one fit all since we know everyone has different skin types. I got sensitive, which I’m not surprised since my face is pretty sensitive to harsh chemicals!

She sent me the Tatcha Ritual Discovery Kit, which is a great intro to their essential four-step ritual. This kit comes with the Camellia Cleansing Oil, Rice Enzyme Powder Exfoliant, Brightening Serum, and Moisture Rich Silk Cream.

Tatcha Collage 1The Camellia Cleansing Oil is really unique from all the other oil cleanser I’ve used. The direction says to massage this oil onto your dry face and hands for 10 seconds and then rinse away. I was skeptical about this product but it actually works! I love how gentle this oil is on my skin but yet strong enough to melt away all my makeup. Another great thing about this oil cleanser is that it doesn’t leave an “oily” residue that most oil-based cleanser does. The only negative thing I about this product is that it contains one medium hazard ingredient.

Ingredients (one medium hazard ingredient):

Cetyl EthylhexanoateOryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Polyglyceryl-10 Dioleate, Polyglyceryl-2 SesquicaprylateCamellia Japonica Seed Oil, Glyceryl Behenate/eicosadioate, Water, Algae ExtractCamellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Alcohol, Fragrance (Natural), Phenoxyethanol

Formulated without:
Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances, Sulfate Detergents, Parabens, PEGs, PPGs, Urea, DEA, TEA or Phthalates.

Tatcha Collage 2The Rice Enzyme Powder Exfoliant is a super gentle, non-abrasive exfoliant that works on all skin type. I like how it just gently polish the top layer of my skin, leaving it really smooth. The design of the opening of the jar isn’t the best since you can tell some of the powder gets stuck in the crack. Also you have to be careful your fingers are dry when you’re opening and pouring out the container so you don’t want any water to get in the hole, which will contaminate the powder. This product also has three medium hazard ingredients.

Ingredients (3 medium hazard ingredients):

Oryza Sativa (rice) Powder, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Potassium Myristate, Cellulose, Water, Papain (papaya Extract), Camellia Sinensis (green Tea) Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Conchiolin (pearl) Protein, Oryza Sativa (rice) Bran, Algae Extract, Glycerin, Dextrin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol

Formulated without:
Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances, Sulfate Detergents, Parabens, PEGs, PPGs, Urea, DEA, TEA or Phthalates.

Tatcha Collage 3The Deep Brightening Serum is a very light, almost liquidity serum. The serum is very gentle so it should work on all skin types. It’s a small bottle but one pump goes a long way. The scent is very light.

Ingredients (2 medium hazard ingredients):

Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Squalane (Olive Origin), Isocetyl StearateInositol (Rice Extract), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Polyglyceryl-10 Isostearate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Behenyl AlcoholSericin (Silk Extract), Arginine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Sodium Hyaluronate, Zizyphus Jujuba Fruit ExtractGlycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sorbitan Stearate, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenerated Lecithin (Soy Origin)Algae ExtractCamellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Fragrance (Natural), Phenoxyethanol

Formulated without:
Kojic Acid, Hydroquinone, Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances, Sulfate Detergents, Parabens, PEGs, PPGs, Urea, DEA, TEA or Phthalates.

Tatcha Collage 4The Moisture Rich Silk Cream is a super light-weight cream. They call it a “gel-cream of liquid silk”, which is a perfect description of this cream. There’s a light, almost citrus fragrance.

Ingredients (two medium hazard ingredients):

Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isocetyl Stearate, Squalane (Olive Origin)Inositol (Rice Extract), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbitan Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Hydrogenated Lecithin (Soy Origin), Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Batyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Arginine, Bis-behenyl/Isostearyl/Phytosteryl Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, CarbomerSericin (Silk Extract), Xanthan Gum, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Thymus Serpillum ExtractAlgae ExtractCamellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Fragrance (Natural) , Phenoxyethanol

Tatcha 6My skin is nice and soft and bright!

Verdict

Overall I think the Tatcha Ritual Discovery Kit is a great kit to start with if you never used Tatcha before and you wanted an intro to their line. I like how the kit is travel size so I can bring it on my carry-on when I travel. My favorite product out of this kit is the Camellia Cleansing Oil since it takes away all my makeup and is gentle on my skin. My normal travel size facial wash is gentle enough to wash my face but not strong enough to take off my makeup. I usually use coconut oil to take my makeup off but they’re not easy to bring on carry-on since it leaks and is sensitive to heat. My next favorite is the rice enzyme powder just because it’s a nice, gentle exfoliant that makes my skin soft and smooth. I like using the cleansing oil and rice enzyme powder together especially when I’m wearing makeup since I know my skin is getting a thorough cleanse. I would most likely buy the travel size camellia cleansing oil again since it’s hard to find a gentle oil cleanser that’s small enough to bring on a carry-on. The only con about this kit is that not all the ingredients are safe so you just have to be aware of that.
